The short version: Your family's data belongs to you. We don't sell it, we don't share it, we don't use it to train AI models, and we don't look at it unless you ask us to help with something specific. Privacy isn't a feature we bolt on — it's the foundation everything is built on.
What We Collect
When you use HeyCarlton, we collect the following information:
- Account information: Your email address and name when you sign up.
- Family information: Details you share with your Carlton agent during setup and ongoing conversations — names, schedules, preferences, and anything else you choose to share.
- Connected service data: If you grant Carlton access to your calendar, email, or other services, we process that data solely to provide the service to you.
- Usage data: Basic analytics about how you use HeyCarlton (feature usage, session length) to help us improve the product. This is never tied to your family's personal information.
- Payment information: Billing details are processed by our payment provider and never stored on our servers.
How We Use It
Your data is used for one purpose: making HeyCarlton work for your family.
- Providing and personalizing your Carlton agent experience
- Managing your family's schedules, reminders, and alerts
- Improving the quality and accuracy of Carlton's responses
- Sending you service-related communications (never marketing spam)
- Maintaining and improving the HeyCarlton platform
We never use your family data to train AI models. We never sell your data. We never share your personal information with advertisers.
Data Storage & Security
Your data lives on a secure, isolated server dedicated to your family. It is not pooled with other users' data.
- All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256)
- Your Carlton instance runs in a containerized environment, isolated from all other users
- We perform regular security audits and penetration testing
- Access to production systems is strictly limited and logged
Third-Party Services
HeyCarlton integrates with third-party services only when you explicitly connect them (e.g., Google Calendar, email providers). When you connect a service:
- We access only the minimum data required to provide the requested functionality
- We never store raw credentials — we use industry-standard OAuth tokens
- You can revoke access to any connected service at any time
We use third-party AI model providers to power Carlton's intelligence. Your conversations are processed by these providers under strict data processing agreements that prohibit them from using your data for training or any other purpose.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access all data we hold about your family
- Correct any inaccurate information
- Export your data in a standard format
- Delete your data entirely (see below)
- Revoke any permissions or connected services at any time
Data Deletion
When you cancel your HeyCarlton account, we permanently delete all your family's data from our systems within 30 days. This includes:
- All conversation history with your Carlton agent
- All family profiles, schedules, and preferences
- All connected service tokens and cached data
- All backups containing your data

Children's Privacy
HeyCarlton is designed for parents managing their family's life. While Carlton may manage information about your children (schedules, activities, academic deadlines), the account is owned and controlled by the parent.
- We do not knowingly collect data directly from children under 13
- All information about minors is provided and controlled by the parent account holder
- Parents can review and delete any information about their children at any time
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will notify you via email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. We will never retroactively change how we handle data you've already shared with us under a previous policy.
